Free Ultrasounds
Pregnant and need an ultrasound? Ultrasound has the power to tell you critical factors about your pregnancy. It is the best step to take after you take a pregnancy test at home. At First Coast Women’s Services, we provide free limited ultrasounds that give you more information about your pregnancy. Plus, ultrasounds answer many of your questions or concerns.
What Do Ultrasounds Do?
An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to detect an image of your fetus inside your uterus. A device called a transducer is used to look at the inside of the abdomen to record the echoes of the sound waves. You will be able to hear the heartbeat if you’d like and determine how far along you are. An ultrasound is a very safe and simple medical procedure.
Do I Need An Ultrasound?
Even though a pregnancy test done at home can tell you that you’re pregnant, an ultrasound goes a step further to confirm your pregnancy. Three things happen when you get an ultrasound:
- It confirms your pregnancy and lets you know if your pregnancy is viable by locating the heartbeat.
- Tells you how far along you are in your pregnancy by measuring your fetus. It also determines your expected due date.
- Locates the placement of your pregnancy. It’s vital to know where the pregnancy is located in your body and, in some cases, find out if it’s a tubal pregnancy (also known as an ectopic pregnancy). A tubal pregnancy can be a serious medical emergency if not treated early on.
