So don’t pay out of pocket for an ultrasound. See us instead—and learn more about why you should below.
How Does an Ultrasound Protect Your Health?
Ultrasound is a scan that uses sound waves to create an image of your internal structures.
During pregnancy, ultrasound reveals key details that you need to know to stay safe. These details include:
- Gestational age: Even if you think you might know how far along you are, your estimation could be way off. In fact, many women who receive an ultrasound are shocked to learn that their pregnancy is a lot further along than they expected. You’ll want to know your gestational age no matter what pregnancy decision you’re considering. It’s especially essential if you’re thinking about abortion—since certain options, like medical abortion, are only FDA-approved if your pregnancy is 10 weeks gestation or under.
- Location: Most pregnancies develop in the uterus. But rarely, a pregnancy will attach and grow outside the uterus. This is called ectopic pregnancy, and it’s a life-threatening emergency that needs immediate medical intervention.
- Viability: As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage, and it’s possible to experience one without any immediate signs. If you’ve had a miscarriage, you will need medical follow-up to ensure you don’t have any complications.
